Description

A pair of gilt bronze two light "aux termes" sconces in Louis XVI style. The base in shape of a nymph and the light arms are decorated with acanthus leaves and pearls. After a design by the goldsmith Robert-Joseph Auguste.The similar wall - lights at the Metropolitain Musem New York (inv. n. 2019.283.74).

The female figures evolving from acanthus leaves which form the base of the wall lights are called grotesque figures inspired by the fanciful wall decoration found in Roman houses.

In good condition. Original gilding.
