François Bonvin (Vaugirard 1817 - 1887 Saint-Germain-en-Laye), French painter and engraver, studied the drawing at the Paris municipal school of drawing. He participated with three paintings at the Salon in 1849 and gained a medal of the 3rd class. He also participated at the "Salon des Refusés" in 1863. François Bonvin executed genre scenes representing humble background and still lifes.

The Musée du Louvre has a drawing with the same composition The Kitchen of the Sisters of Charity dated 1879 (inv. n° RF 36038) executed in pen, brown ink and brown and gray-brown wash. A drawing with the same theme with the title Convent during the holidays passed on the art market (Artcurial Paris, sale of the 27 March 2009, lot 89).
